February 4, 2025 at 4:10 pmBased on my previous post, https://www.reddit.com/r/LegalAdviceIndia/s/O9b4c9sCEP – thanks all for the effort in giving me an answer.I’m sorry, I have more questions. The post mortem report says “Reserved Pending”. There was a cop throughout the autopsy. He kept asking my mom questions like “when did you last talk to him”. Mom showed her call log. They aren’t declaring the time of death but looks like it’s a few hours after the call.
Some facts:
1) He’s a doctor and he overdose.
2) He was suffering from mental health issues. This is corroborated by his Principal and Dean, and I know the psychologist whom he was seeing.
3) No note.
4) Some assets sold. Looks planned from sometime.
5) We asked an IAS to speak to police station. Still took two days and delays by the police. Not rude but some delays and pushing us in cycles.
6) Without the cause of death, the police asked us to come back in 10 days. Mom asked the cop what’s the reason, he said “why do you want to know. It will only hurt you”.
7) We have his two cellphones.
8) I’m worried the investigation will run over for 1) money 2) delay things and that will further cause stress to our family.
9) He was under several medications for Shizo, Personality Disorder.
10) Denied promotion because of the above mental health issues. What could happen? What should we do? My family is confident it will be open and shut, but I want to be prepared.

February 4, 2025 at 6:01 pmMost cops and doctors would suck dicks for money unless it’s someone among their fam who’s dead. At times even if it’s their fam. Hardly realistic to expect the truth and justice in this shitty system. -

February 4, 2025 at 10:02 pmCondolence to you and your family.Police should have assessed the situation and found no evidence of wrongdoing (no one else was present at the site of the crime, there was no suicide note, etc.). In this case, the police do not do any further investigation. Perhaps, everyone is waiting for the postmortem report.
After your register the FIR, the inspector in charge should give you a death certificate. They don’t need to know the cause of death. Just bribe them. Once you have the death certificate, you need to go ahead with the family inheritance, recover money from the bank account, etc.

February 5, 2025 at 4:48 amThe autopsy report is first sent to the SSP of the concerned district, which takes about a week to reach the police station. This delay is part of the standard process.Once the PMR (Post-Mortem Report) reaches the SHO, they will review it. If the doctor finds no signs of foul play, no further investigation will be required. The SHO will then provide you with a copy of the PMR, which you can use to obtain the death certificate and file any insurance claims, if applicable.

February 6, 2025 at 11:59 pmAs far as I know, every term insurance policy covers suicide after one or two years.

February 7, 2025 at 2:45 pmThank you, this is helpful. I’ll have to leave in a few weeks, do you think it would be worth asking a family friend to speak to the SSP, just in case? Thanks.-

February 8, 2025 at 12:33 amI think you should wait for the police to hand over the PMR copy to you. The police are generally supportive in such matters. Call the SHO around 10–12 days after the autopsy. If they are not cooperating, only then should you send someone to speak with the SSP. Other than that, there’s no need to go door-to-door, especially when you know the police can’t provide the PMR copy without a delay of 10–12 days.
