UI live in a hilly area and my scooty got stolen last night. We look for it the whole morning and noon and even filed FIR. We eventually found it around 10 km away, on someone’s varendah.
The owner of the house is a mechanic who claimed that he and his friends found the stolen scooty(mine) 12kms away and decide to fix it and brought it home while they are drunk.
The scooty was in a broken condition and many parts have to be fixed. The perpetrators (4 people) claimed that they didn’t stole it frgm our home.
The police and they themselves claimed that we should pardon them and find the real perpetrator.
In my opinion, I believe that even thought they found the scooty on a roadside (according to them), they shouldn’t even call a mechanic to fix it or brought it to their home. Im not an intellectual but from crime movies, I’ve gathered that touching a stolen item and bringing it home is equal to stealing it yourself.
One of the perpetrators even try to intimidate us in front of the police station. I need serious help from someone who is an expert. Please help.

UThievies usually steal bikes and throw it on the side of the road , it’s common. Don’t apply those values and pin it on these guys. Just check if there are any cctv footage then you can decide what to do.

HIf a stolen item is found with a person, it is presumed that he stole it or received it knowing it to be stolen. Burden would be on that person to prove that it was not them who stole it. However, even if they can prove that they did not steal it, retaining stolen goods without informing to the police is also a crime. They will have to satisfy the court why they took it from the roadside without informing the police.
Police can continue investigating if they believe someone else was involved, but you don’t have to pardon anyone. Tell police to complete their investigation quickly and file charge sheet against all involved people.
