UA friend of mine contacted a lawyer for her cyber crime case. They talked for a few minutes and she had her case resolved after she talked to him( not by the lawyer but by other means somehow). She wasn’t told about the consultation fee she had to give for the few minutes of call. Now she is asked to pay 2000 for the call. What should she do please tell lawyers.

U2k for a few minutes? Was that some big shot lawyer with years of experience? If so, then there are chances that he charges others the same too. You should pay, lawyers especially good ones charge money for consultation. It isn’t a foreign thing. if he was some random lawyer who doesn’t practice in HC or SC, isn’t from a good NLU, hasn’t handled many cases and doesn’t have more than 5 years of experience then he’s just scamming you. UI don’t know much about him but he didn’t solve anything and the girl can’t pay. He didn’t tell her before hand

UYou should have thought about it before. The girl shouldn’t just refuse to pay. Consultation fee is a thing. If he had solved the case then he would have charged much higher. Not paying is just crass. Don’t exploit people. I hope the lawyer doesn’t let it go and files the case on the girl.

UHe didn’t help any ways in the case he just talked for a few minutes. I get it that consulation fee should be there but he didn’t mention that before. The number was given to us stating it was an NGO.

EShould have asked before. No one doles out advice for free. Just because you didnt use his advice doesnt mean its invalid. Please Don’t cheap out on the lawyer now.

UI was given that number saying it’s of an NGO so we tried to talk to him. We wouldn’t have asked if we knew it’s paid

SMost lawyers charge money for consults. Our time isn’t for free. I don’t understand why people would think that we just dole out advice to whoever trundles over to us with an issue. Except when I am on reddit, I never give free consults.
So, unless specifically decided earlier, consultations cost money. Your friend should pay ideally. Not paying wouldn’t be an issue either cause no lawyer has the time to go around chasing people for a mere 2000.

UI get it she wouldn’t have wasted a single second of his if he told he it was paid. He never mentioned it untill the end of call. Someone gave that number saying it was an NGO

SLike I said, if she decides not to pay, no one will care. It’s just 2000.
If a lawyer is charging that then it’s pocket change for him.
But take this as a lesson. Lawyers don’t work for free unless it is specifically decided for your case.
