March 31, 2025 at 4:45 amHi, I want to purchase a vehicle, but the showroomโs QR code is being categorized as a fuel expense. I intended to use my Kiwi credit card for the transaction, but fuel expenses are excluded from its benefits. Is it legal for a fuel QR code to be used for non-fuel transactions? Also, if the showroom refuses to provide an alternative QR code, where can I file a complaint?

March 31, 2025 at 7:01 amAnd why do you think you have the right to demand a certain payment mode?MDR in those vehicle purchases run into thousands that comes out of dealer’s pocket and that is why they don’t like payments with Credit cards or non rupay debit cards.
That being said, the Merchant code being incorrect is a fraud but that fraud also benefits customers too as a lot of cards have fuel surcharge reimbursement policy.

March 31, 2025 at 7:38 amI’m asking about a QR code, the MDR for that should be zero right?
The reward for fuel charges are quite negligible. How can I raise my voice against this fraud.-

March 31, 2025 at 7:44 amAre you paying the QR through credit card? Like credit card by UPI?Also you raising your voice will make them stop accepting payments via credit cards or they will add an upfront charge to it.

March 31, 2025 at 7:58 amYes, I’m paying through UPI credit card, They can’t add upfront charges, they don’t have any component which they can alter.-

March 31, 2025 at 8:04 amThe wrong Merchant code is a problem. They will correct the Merchant code and add surcharge over it. You are free to decline but you cannot force them to take CC. Simple as that.My friend’s dealership has been doing this from past 15 years. They add surcharge. If you want to pay then pay else leave.

March 31, 2025 at 8:32 amRegistering a UPI QR code under the โFuelโ category instead of the correct merchant category benefits the company rather than the customer. Since UPI QR transactions already have zero MDR, the customer does not gain any additional advantage. However, the company can claim tax benefits by classifying these transactions as fuel-related expenses.-
