February 11, 2025 at 3:44 pmI need some advice on a weird GST situation I’m facing.Back in January 2024, I bought machinery for ₹10,00,000 + 18% GST from a vendor. At that time, I didn’t have a GST number, so I just paid the full amount, including GST, without questioning much.
A few months later, after repeatedly insisting, the vendor finally gave me a GST bill in June 2024. But something felt off about the bill. By July, I had my own GST number, so I confronted him multiple times, asking for proof that he actually paid GST to the government. He kept avoiding my questions.
I finally raised a complaint at my GST office. Within 2-3 days, the vendor suddenly reached out, saying he would issue a fresh GST bill for the current month (feb) so that I could claim ITC. Now, I’m completely confused.
Why was he so reluctant to give me the bill earlier?
Does this mean he never paid GST in the first place?
If I accept the new bill, will I face any issues later?
What should be my next steps legally and financially?
Would really appreciate insights from people who have dealt with similar GST fraud cases.

February 11, 2025 at 3:46 pmIf you didn’t have a GST number how would you claim ITC. At the time of payment if you didn’t have GST registration I don’t think you can claim GST.
