May 10, 2026 at 4:52 amHi everyone,I need legal advice regarding correction of DOB in my birth certificate in India.
My situation:
My current birth certificate has an incorrect date of birth which is 2005 but want it to be 2007.
My educational documents (CBSE marksheets) DOB is 2007 but Aadhaar, PAN DOB is 2005 . And in Adhar DOB limit is crossed.
I want to know the legally correct and most practical process to get the birth certificate corrected.
Questions:
Is DOB correction in a birth certificate legally possible after many years?
Which document is considered strongest proof for correction?
Do I need a court order/magistrate order, or can the municipal authority correct it directly?
What happens if my other documents have a different DOB?
Is it easier to first correct the birth certificate and then update other documents, or the opposite?
Has anyone successfully done this recently?
Iโm from Uttar Pradesh if state-specific rules matter.
Would appreciate guidance from lawyers or anyone who has gone through this process.
Thanks.

May 10, 2026 at 5:03 amTry to get the aadhaar and pan corrected first with your marksheet, [the marksheet is a valid proof of DoB for aadhaar](https://uidai.gov.in/images/commdoc/List_of_Supporting_Document_for_Aadhaar_Enrolment_and_Update.pdf). Then try to get a passport with the said documents and preferably a voter id too, I don’t know how you will get the birth certificate corrected but having as many documents as possible with the correct details is advised. May 10, 2026 at 5:06 amIt’s certainly possible, but be ready to roam around and spend quite a bit since you have a few documents to correct.
I know a couple of instances where it was done, including my own but in my case every other document had the same date which was used in my school enrollment but the birth certificate had the right date. So I got a different birth certificate done in Karnataka (my home state). So all my documents are in order now.
