I wanted to file an RTI on my university regarding examination results. I have never filed an RTI before. I think it would be appropriate to file it with the registrar of evaluation. That said, should I use a particular form to file the RTI ? Karnataka govt has forms for RTI [here](https://www.kic.gov.in/AnnualReturn.do) but form 6(1) doesnt really have any space to mention the way I would like to receive the response. Should I attach another letter specifying that ? If I ask to receive the response though post should i cover the cost of post ? And should that be paid after I receive it ?

Also the cost of filing the RTI is Rs 10. Should i just attach cash in my application ? What if the PIO says they didnt receive the money ?

You can file your RTI with the Registrar of Evaluation using Karnataka’s [RTI Form 6(1)](https://rtiwala.com/content/how-to-file-an-rti-online/). If the form doesn’t have a section for specifying the response mode, you can include a separate letter requesting a reply via post or email.

No, you donโ€™t need to cover the postal cost. As per RTI rules, if you request a response via post, the department must bear the cost. You can pay the โ‚น10 RTI fee via court fee stamp, IPO (Indian Postal Order), or online, depending on Karnatakaโ€™s RTI payment methods. If you need help with the next steps, visit RTIwala.com.

ADVOCATE HERE. Why are you even worried about form size and particular person at University? Just file the RTI through Karnataka’s portal for RTI. Point of contact will directly forward it to appropriate person, without any concerns as to space. My best wishes.

Ok, now I understand why you took the offline path. Absurdity at the end of University though. Nonetheless, forms as prescribed by State Government should be followed ONLY IN SPIRIT, you can add extra boxes as well as create more space. No one should be offended on that.

Ohh ok great. Or can I just attach like a cover letter ? Also how do you suggest I pay for the RTI ? Is enclosing cash in a post envelope a good idea ?

Seeing how bangalore university is I doubt they will be willing to accept an application if i submit in person. So i plan to post it ask them to send the response in speed post. Idk if I should cover the cost of them posting me ?

Given that you have doubts on the University, I would, all the more, request you to first try in person submission, because that’s the way you will get a diary number. If they don’t, try via email and also write a complaint to First Apellate Authority for refusing to accept an RTI. Regarding cost, pay via postal order only, which is how you get to trace a payment done.

“Diary number” in my previous comment is equivalent to an acknowledgement itself, don’t worry
