UHello everybody I am 21 years old a resident of Jharkhand I came to New Delhi for higher studies, I am currently in my third year, last night around 7 while I was returning with my friend from Lenskart.3 goons came out of their car cornered us and abused us, they slapped my friend and upon confrontation one of the girl sitting in back seat, started abusing my mother and pushed me they proceeded to physically abuse me. We went to the police station to lodge a complaint where we were made to sit for 2hours and no actions were taken against them, we were told to sign up a ‘compromise letter’. The police didn’t bother to check the cctv footage, they told us they will lock us up instead, on god knows what ground, when were the ones who were harassed?? What kind of justice has been served?
The police even told us they wouldn’t consider this matter, since it’s a small one, so what r they waiting for, for me to be harassed again by them?? Was pulling my t-shirt off me wasn’t enough?? do I need to get r$$$d to get justice??? I didn’t even know them!!! I am new in the city is that my fault that I don’t have enough money to lodge a case or I don’t belong to a specific community??? Now they even have my address from the rough FIR sheet they made!!! M I safe?? We didn’t have any mark of physical assault on our body, they said, hence it’s not worthy for punishment? What about the mental trauma I went through??Is justice illegal in India??

As for the FIR, you can get one done by approaching the magistrate or mailing(physical) the concerned police station. Use a courier service that asks for signature to get the mail delivered. The police will have no choice but to register the FIR.
Please don’t let this go. Your dignity is precious. Fight for it no matter the consequences. -

SPeople are looking for something juicy. Would suggest somehow to get out of it. Just look up Rohan Mehta, he shared all evidence, 0 action, although in his case is corruption at the highest levels.

UWhy did they randomly attack you, it is very surprising that they wouldn’t have any motive and would just attack you out of nowhere.
Also police are compelled to register an FIR, if they refuse to do so you can write a letter to the superintendent that the police are not registering the FIR.
However you might be better off filing a complaint with the judicial magistrate with the details of what happened to you. You need to visit the court for that.
Make sure you document as many things as you can, and also if you can get a copy of the CCTV footage and if possible get corroborations from any eye witnesses regarding the abuse.

UAlso the justice system is horrible in india. If you didnt suffer any major injuries or traumas from this incident, then I would recommend just moving on. A court case lasts a long time and lots of resources. Since you mentioned they were from a posh area they probably have the connections and the money to get make this case dissappear.

UThat’s the reason we lodged the complaint cz we don’t know why were we attacked out of sudden they came, and without any confrontation slapped my friend, I really have no idea we even had witnesses there but none came to aid, they were only talk ‘ye kr lo wo kr lo, rok kr rkhna chaiye tah…’ etc.

UDid those guys have any prior confrontation with you before or did they just pick up on you randomly? The Indian police system is so corrupt like without money and connections you can achieve nothing. Are they from Jat or gujjar community??

URandomly. They came to us and in their specific jat tone asked us to stop the bike, cornered us and slapped my friend….rest is mentioned in the post above. If there was any fault of mine or my friend’s I wouldn’t be escalating the matter so much, the only fault of ours is that we were on bike and not so influential. Hope that answered all your questions.

UWe called alot of helpline numbers then, the exact moment when they left hurriedly after abusing us. But none answered

PDo it again now till they pick it up. And keep a ss/ref no for filed complaint and if still nothing happens. File a RTI. I can understand you are frustrated rn, but things take time. Keep the logs of the no you tried and everything with you. basically keep all the proofs and keep nudging, Zero fir/mahila helpline/ngos/Rti etc etc there are many ways to get justice.

ULiterally no idea why they did that. Heard stories from friends goons here do that on regular basis.
My friend’s mother told me “specific people with four wheelers harass everybody on bikes or scooters thinking they r low lifers, and couldn’t hurt them” this might actually have truth in it if u look at it.

UFile an E-FIR on Delhi police portal, they will have to consider it and probably Police will call you to the station –
Record everything from there on & take some male dominant elder with you
And also try to gather CCTV footage by yourself and keep it safe for use in court.-
UWe have relentlessly asked for the cctvs. And they got us to write the complain on a sheet of paper of which I took a picture of, we have sent it to a lawyer for reference, I really don’t have any idea what’s going to happen. The whole situation has @ucked up my mental health really bad.

UI can totally understand your situation right now. All you need to do is be calm and think of what can be done going forward that too carefully without compromising on your own safety.
Where was the CCTV installed? ATM/Cafe/Some local shop?
Try to get footage directly from them and attach it in E-FIR.

BGirl, I hope you’re okay. I’m glad that at least you are safe and sound physically. Contact some women help groups, they’re gonna help you more than the police, it seems.

UThings are only going downhill from now. My friends all of three of them, the people I had most expectations from didn’t bother to call me, the only person I thought would stick by my side atleast for today decided to desert me and attain a wedding party.
None called, none visited. I have lost all hope, all of my confidence is in vain, I lose. Against the system against the world.
I have deleted the post from Instagram and twitter as well. -
