        So I had got a performance bonus of around X lakhs for my performance in FY 2023-2024. However there was a clause that the bonus would be recoverable in case I were to leave the company in FY 2024-2025 on a pro rated basis, which is kinda BS in my opinion.

        Anyway I left the company after 3 months and joined somewhere else. Now I got a mail from my employer that I need to clear my dues to get clearance on my FnF and get experience letter.

        My question is, would I need this experience letter later on? As most companies only see the latest one? Can it create any problems, such as background verification check failing?

          How can performance bonus be recoverable?

          It’s normally joining bonus that may be recoverable

              Exactly, some bs rules that company came up with which I don’t agree with. If it was joining bonus, I might actually give it back without much thought.

                  They’re taking the employees for a ride. Ask them for an explanation as to why should your performance bonus be given back. It was paid because of your past performance not future performance

                      Well, the company is very toxic to even reply to my emails anymore. I’m not sure if we can reach a middle ground.

                  Recovering performance bonus is very unethical. Recovery of joining or retention bonus is fine.ย 

                  Anyways if the clause was told earlier then you may not have much of a case to fight.

                  Experience certificate for all previous companies is needed. If you exit without F&F it will cause issues in BGV. So better talk to your previous company and come to an amicable settlement.ย
