With the increasing use of digital platforms, personal data has become one of the most valuable commodities in today’s world. However, with this comes a growing concern about the misuse or unauthorized leaking of personal information by companies.

In India, data protection laws are still evolving, and many individuals may not know their legal rights or the steps to take when their personal data is compromised.

What legal recourse does a person have if they find out that their personal data has been misused, sold, or leaked by a company without their consent?

When the union government tries to monetize personal data, what expectation can we have ?

The quantum of spam calls and SMS and and WhatsApp messages make it clear that data leakage has no consequences

It’s the govt itself playing with data.. look at what happened either RTO database. It’s up for sale and there are thousand of cheap android apps running on it. Data privacy in India is a joke.. speaking of this, the union minister of IT assured that the Aadhar data is safe behind a β€œ13 inch wall” πŸ˜‚

Section 2(47) of consumer protection act 2019, unfair trade practise, allows you to file a complaint. Quoting from it –

                      > disclosing to other person any personal information given in confidence by the consumer unless such disclosure is made in accordance with the provisions of any law for the time being in force
