AI am a 22 y/o M. recently my father has landed into some monetary dispute regarding some property and the other party threatened to Kill him , though the warning wasn’t explicit but it certainly meant that the other person would kill him if things doesn’t go his way. I have filed for police protection but I can’t rely on that solely so I was looking for keeping some melee weapons for the defense of my family ( since Firearms require hell lot of clearances ). I checked the web for better clarity of the law but couldn’t make much sense. I need to know any possible melee weapons that I can lawfully posses without government objecting to it. Any other related advice regarding the same is highly appreciated .

KI would recommend pepper spray, yes it isn’t as cool as a machete or a metal baseball bat but a pepper spray will deter multiple people at the same time and requires little physical strength. Get multiple pepper sprays for everyone in the family and use it once or twice to get a hang of how it works.

PBaseball bat, hockey stick, and similar ones, always attack below the knees from a legal point of view, good luck.

PKnife below 6 or 8 inches, refer Indian arms act anything above certain length is illegal under law.

ENAL
The trick is always in thinking about dual usage: reasons in parentheses given to explain why you are possessing them
1) Heavy long handle hammers, Shovels, Heavy iron rods, pipes (construction)
2) Meat cleavers (cooking / cutting)
3) Heavy bats / Hockey sticks ( games )
4) Axe ( cut wood / fire safety)As a rule, stay away from fights as long as you can. Never start a fight which risks your life / limb. Only use force in extreme life threatening circumstances and under duress. No shame in walking away even after verbal public humiliation as it is better than years of walking through police / courts / possible imprisonment

C1. The pen is mightier than the sword. A pen can do wonders in causing injuries, even pencils for that matter the trick is how to hold the instrument.
2. The wheel nut remover which is used to change car tyres. It’s quite solid, I had once taken it out for my own protection when a fight was incoming. I didn’t have to use it, but it’s quite heavy and can do some serious damage.
3. Belt. Leather belts can cause some serious damage.
4. Chains.
5. Compass, which is used to draw circles
6. A lighter with a air freshener/cheap deo. Becomes a flamethrower.
7. A bike gear or sprocket, can be used as metal knuckle, but I feel a belt or chain works better
8. A bathing towel. Especially when wet can cause serious damage
9. Pepper spray
10. Piece of wire, especially a UG cable which might be 10sq mm or more. A small 1 meter length will be enough to whip people.Factually speaking, in an emergency you might not have time to get and use this, as you would be on flight or fight mode
My recommendations:
1. Throw sand into the eyes, followed by a finisher
2. Slap both ears simultaneously.
3. Using your thumb as a weapon, thrust into the throat.
4. Kick to the knee, dislocate the knee joint.
5. Kick to the ankle joint, would require more force to dislocate.
6. Kick to the groin.
7. While a kick to the back? Anywhere above the glutes.While a bit of caution is good, always remember it is better to avoid the fight altogether. A little bit of monetary loss/property loss can be written on the books, but you can make back that money later, especially since your just 22 years; don’t throw your whole life away with one bad move.
When we are younger we think we can take on the world by ourselves, as we get older, we realise that life is more like a game of chess, using calculated moves to beat your opponent.
Also, God and Karma are watching. The universe always gives back what is lost and vice versa.

Athanks for your advise man ! I’ll surely avoid any sort of confrontation but if it comes to do or die, I’d prefer protecting my family

HPepper spray requires no skill but can be really useful in those situations.
Any sport thing like a baseball bat (metal), hockey stick which can be explained as sports equipment.

CStart with the cheapest,
Mixture of rock salt and chilly powder near door,
Pepper spray,
baseball bat/ cricket wicket with nails in them. -

Sinstall a good cctv coverage for the entire premise. Install it obscuring from normal vision, difficult to reach. Some cameras placed in a way dedicated to capturing faces clearly.
Have power backup(inverter). Very helpful if things go nasty, but drags on. -

CThe best weapon which would terrify anyone to mess with you would be a pen knife. If you aren’t against guns , the pen knife can mess up everyone if you know how to wield it. Even professional fighter are afraid of knife dwelling criminals. It’s handy , would take the same or less space in your pocket than your phone , isn’t heavy.
I’ll suggest research and know about these small knives , you’ll be surprised about how lightly we general people take this.

CDon’t follow advices here from people who are calling for baseball bats , metal rods or anything long. Any person who’s even remotely trained for combat could easily , very easily overcome these objects. I’m a trained kickboxer and with exception of guns , I’m afraid of anyone having a pen knife (even around 5-7 inches are more than enough to get the job done).
And knuckle dusters or any similar devices would go useless if you don’t know how to punch properly , plus most of these would have a high chance to break your wrist bone on heavy impact. Go and watch bare knuckle fights , it would give you a perspective how dangerous a fighter can be with bare knuckles.
