BI keep seeing this common advice of taking a lawyer to police station when ever police asks a person to visit police station or if someone need to visit a police station.
In India the chance of police abusing power and causing major inconvenience is very high.
For people who are in corporate or salaries careers or ever small business, this can be a complete new experience to hire a lawyer for such police interactions.
With increasing urbanization , i can see more and more chances of crossing path with police for an average man.
In order to make sure our rights and dignity is preserved, i think its a very good idea to know and some familiarity with prices and options of getting legal help.
Just like having a primary doctor, i think we might be soon having a primary lawyer service.What are the current options to avail a lawyer who can accompany people to police interactions?
What would be an average price for such services?
What’s the suggested tier of such services?
( From a new law grad to high court / supreme Court lawyer)How to weed out bad lawyers in case if we get stuck with inefficient or cop connected corrupt lawyers??

With any service, who is to decide the price ? Why is Nalini Chidambaram entitled to lakhs for an appearance vs say a lawyer outside the court charging 500 rs. ? Is the difference in advice worth the lakhs ? Maybe, maybe not. Or take say the case against Ajmal Kasab, could any lawyer have managed to prevent his death sentence ? If not, then why could he have not been represented by a person charging 500 rs. ? In terms of outcome it would be exactly the same.
Like everything else in this world price is not a barometer of anything except expenditure

Depends on the issue, time of the day, your rapport with the lawyer, urgency of the situation etc etc
I paid my friends brother 15k when I wanted him to visit the police station when there was a bailable arrest warrant issued against my erstwhile founder.
This was in Mumbai in Oct 2024.

NThers an app called “tele law for citizens” created by govt of India for EWS SC ST basically for those who can’t afford lawyer for free.. there you can video connect and ask him any questions suggestions etc. its free…or bargain with any lawyer outside sessions court for 1k-2k to go with you to police station.m talking about the rates of suburbs of Mumbai (Vikhroli kanjur Bhandup rates ).
