January 18, 2025 at 9:49 amI have a general question about the death penalty. I’ve been watching Black Warrant, set in the 1980s, and noticed some executions that seemed inconsistent. For instance, one person was sentenced to death for killing two minors, raping one, and holding them captive. In another case, two men were given the death penalty for killing a woman, although they were hired by her husband to do so. Since capital punishment is typically rare, I’m confused about why these convicts received such sentences. How does the process work? -

January 18, 2025 at 12:32 pmSC set a rarest of rare cases standard, which gets bent as needed. But the bigger issue is that these sentences are rarely carried out and fail to be a deterrent or serve justice.-
