Who is the rightful owner of eggs.

My friend has some pets — pigeons, cocks, hens etc. One of his new hens started coming to my terrace every day and lays an egg here. I told him about it, but now we’re arguing over who owns the egg.

His point is that the hen is his, so the egg is also his.
My point is — the hen comes by itself and lays the egg on **my** terrace. It’s like fruits falling on someone else’s land — it becomes their property, right?

So my question is — **legally, is the egg mine or his?**
Can he sue me if I take the egg? Is there anything I can do to make sure I’m on the right side of the law?

At the most you can be considered as a bailee of goods. And if you take care of the egg and prevented it from being cracked and broken you’d be entitled to compensation as quantum meruit.

Owner of the egg is the owner of the hen.
