February 16, 2025 at 11:08 amWhy is Ranveer not answering the summons of the police? On one hand he says that he is fully cooperating with authorities and has full faith in the Indian Judiciary and the Police, on the other hand he has eloped his dwelling with the excuse that there are threats against his life.We all know why he’s eloped – because his lawyer has appealed to the SC for anticipatory and interim bail. If he answers the police summons they will likely put him in 14 days judicial custody.
I’m not questioning the underlying issue – whether free speech in India allows comedians to push the envelope when it comes to appropriate content. What I’m questioning is – how can you claim to trust the system and then elope until things are favourable?

February 16, 2025 at 11:36 amThen why does his Instagram statement say: “I’m fully cooperating with authorities…” and “I have full faith in Indian police and Judiciary”?Is he bullshitting?

February 16, 2025 at 11:45 amSo no one in this society stands up for his or her beliefs anymore? Everyone is gaslighting eachother for money, power, and influence. What a cynical way to live your life.

February 16, 2025 at 11:41 amIt’s not the same: A girl deciding what’s good for her personal safety given the society’s culture is making independent decisions.Ranveer, on the other hand, celebrates the current state of Indian society and culture, yet is now on the run from the same society he claims he loves.

February 16, 2025 at 11:57 amWhat I’m trying to get at is –ΒWhy create a system with loop-holes where people who’ve alleged to have committed a crime routinely run away until their lawyers can file for anticipatory and interim bail?Β
Why can’t we have a system where police doesn’t get to arrest people without incontrovertible proof having been found?

February 16, 2025 at 12:15 pmThink about this yourself, you go out protesting against a law or maybe a corrupt politician or officer who isn’t getting punishment but then the people in power direct the police to take action against you. The police using this system that you say arrest you and put you in jail.Did you do anything wrong? No. Did you do anything unlawful? No. By the time your matter reaches anywhere. You’re done for. Would you like that?
You want some authority to check the incontrovertible proof against you? That’s the current system. Police investigate stuff, file the chargesheet, the court looks at it and then the case against you proceeds. Even then there are so many unlawful arrests. For years and years protestors are thrown into jails with no sight of a court hearing. And then you want police to have more power than they already do. You need to touch some grass. Get out there and see how broken the system is.

February 16, 2025 at 12:30 pm“Police investigate stuff, file the chargesheet, the court looks at it and then the case against you proceeds.”This statement from you is verifiably wrong. Who honestly believes that police even looks at evidence before filing chargesheet. If that were the case, there would be no need to approach high courts for quashing.Β
I’m contending that there wouldn’t be a need for quashing if the police actually did its job.

February 16, 2025 at 1:07 pmSo he’ll suck up to the DGs and Commissioners – yet run away from them when he’s on the hook? This is why things will never change in India. Allahabadias and Prayagrajias of this country won’t call out a corroded and corrupt system for personal milestones. Yet these same idiots will run away from the corrupt system when they get entrapped.

February 16, 2025 at 1:24 pmSo who is really at fault? The citizens, public officials, or these individuals?Illiteracy makes the public support such vacuous internet personalities who don’t believe in anything apart from their personal standing.

February 16, 2025 at 3:24 pmWhat’s at fault are the dumb laws of the country. If Allahabadia wants to sleep with his parents, what’s the problem with others. No one is asking anyone to watch stuff at gunpoint. If you don’t want to watch it, don’t. Police will spend their entire time scratching balls unless there is media or rich man pressure-

February 16, 2025 at 5:25 pmI agree with you 1000%. I’m a free speech extremist as well. I’m the guy who would file a case against Will Smith for punching me for mere words spoken in reference to his wife. I’m the guy who supports burning of flags, religious books, whatever you may like as a sign of protest or even circus. But that’s really besides the point and if and when it reaches the SC I hope they rule in favor of free speech —Β that’s really not what I’m pointing to – I’m pointing to the fact that India loves indulging these internet personalities and make them into some sort of rockstars.ΒRanveer can’t keep it straight – either he believes in the Indian bureaucratic process and is available for questioning OR he should say he fears he will be arrested for police and judicial incompetence. The Police, Lower courts, even high courts are not institutions that should get to decide what constitutes free speech in this country. That is only SC’s prerogative. That’s all I’m saying.
