April 26, 2026 at 4:10 amHi everyone,I recently ordered some electronics (vibration sensors + PCB boards) from China (WitMotion). The total product value was around ₹22,000.
The shipment is arriving via FedEx, and I just received a duty invoice of ₹8,225, which feels quite high (~37% extra). I want to understand if this is correct or if I’m being overcharged.
Here’s the breakdown provided by FedEx:
Customs Duty: ₹2,585
IGST: ₹4,696
FedEx Advancement Charge: ₹800
IGST on FedEx fee: ₹144
Total: ₹8,225
Some more details:
Shipped from Hong Kong
Declared as: vibration sensor / PCB board + Li-ion battery
Personal order (not business)
My questions:
Is this calculation normal for India imports via courier like FedEx?
Is there any chance these charges are inflated or incorrectly calculated?
Could I have reduced this cost by choosing a different shipping method (like India Post)?
Any tips to reduce customs duty legally for future orders?
Would really appreciate insights from people who have imported electronics before 🙏
