Advice on surname changes in Indian passport

Hello guys , I m planning to do my higher studies in abroad and i m supposed to renewal my passport. I got my passport when I was minor, where my parents affidavits and their passport along with my birth certificate were the only required documents. Now I am a major (23) and my father is no more. All my educational certificates has M as my initial and my father name starts with syed , whereas syed is our caste name and my father real name starts with M ( say for example Musa, probably syed Musa) . And now when it comes to surname, my old passport has syed Musa as my surname but now I want my surname as Musa alone. But none of my father’s certificates has Musa in it. And in passport office they asked me to change my initial as S in entire documents ( from birth to education), but I don’t think I cna do that. I m at the final stage where I found myself helpless and left hope. Finally reddit popped up in my mind and this is the only left over hope of mine. .

Please guys give me some advice or ur thoughts where I could renewal my passport with Musa as my surname by removing syed .
