January 22, 2025 at 4:27 amI am staying for rent. They don’t have dedicated parking for cars as it is old appartment. Now the guy who owned the land before construction of the appartment is claiming he has more rights as he was the owner. He is parking his car in common area. The association is just a flat owner. No formal association. He informed all not to park cars inside. There is place to park 2 cars and 20 bikes. Now the problem is the the association is politely asking the other guy to remove his car. But forced me to remove my car. By threatining me vacate or remove my car. I removed my car a month back but the other car is still parked there. All I want is equal treatment and equal rule for all irrespective of owner or tenant. Anything I can do legally for equality? This is in chennai if it helps. -

January 22, 2025 at 4:40 amAdd info. The association guy has personal problems with the other car owner. He is trying everything to screw the other guy. The other guy has more plants, and has a car parked inside. Parking bike at a specific location. Now the association guy is trying to implement rules that affect the owner guy. But my issue is they are forcing me to remove by car but always polite to the other guy since he is a owner. Every 2 months at meeting he request the owner to remove his car. Remove additional plants and move his bike. But nothing changes. This is happening for 4 years but suddenly the implement the rule aggressively on me when I parked for 2 weeks.-

January 23, 2025 at 7:51 amThis is the plight of a tenant. Tenants are treated unfairly as compared to owners almost everywhere. It is very unfortunate that you have to go through this but there is nothing that you can reasonably do about it without a agreement conferring upon you the right to use the parking. Also, to give you such right in the agreement your friend must have it in the first place.

January 22, 2025 at 5:59 amDo you have a rent agreement and does it say anything about parking rights? If yes then you can start by sending a legal notice to the association-

January 22, 2025 at 6:12 amI don’t have an agreement. It’s my college friend’s house. We stayed together there from college days but now he moved out after marriage due to the job location. There is no specific parking place there. Just common passage to all the blocks that are being used to park vehicles. I can get a rental agreement from my friend. But it will not say anything about parking. What are my options regarding discrimination against tenants ? Thanks for your help.-

January 23, 2025 at 6:11 amDiscrimination will have to be proved under one of the existing articles. Talk to a lawyer and see if it can be pursued
