Hey everyone, I need some advice on my current job situation because it feels like I’m being set up to fail.

The role I applied (content marketing specialist) to was different from what I was hired for. However, six months into the job, one of my teammates quit, and I was expected to take over her duties (her role-content marketing specialist), which I did seamlessly. As per my contract, I am a permanent employee. It was 1 year 6 months since I joined. Also The company has no official termination (fire) policy.

The problem? The project I was hired for had no structure, no product, no clear vision. We were basically just told to write blogs and do on-page SEO without any real strategy. On top of that, we were often asked to handle social media marketing, YouTube marketing, and other random tasks—work that was clearly beyond a Content Writer’s role. Almost every week or month our priorities would change and we would be expected to work on things often outside the team’s skill set.

Despite all this, I went above and beyond my official designation, taking on tasks that were much closer to Content Marketing Specialist work. Then, out of the blue, we were told that our project was shutting down because it wasn’t generating revenue and they couldn’t justify our salaries anymore. This was informed verbally and there is no official/written confirmation about the closure of the project.

Here’s Where Things Get Messed Up:
I was verbally told by my project manager that I’d be reassigned to another team.

However, when I spoke to the manager of the new team, they had no idea about this supposed reassignment.

Meanwhile, all my teammates have already been reassigned successfully and have started their work in new teams.

I am completely in the dark, with no official update from HR about my role or future.

HR is not responding properly, and I have no clue whether I’m being laid off or if they are just trying to force me to quit.

They are leaving me in limbo while everyone else is reassigned.

At this point, it feels like they are deliberately isolating me, either to frustrate me into quitting or to fire me later without severance. The uncertainty and mismanagement are causing me extreme stress and anxiety, and I feel like this amounts to mental harassment.

        My Questions:
Is this a case of constructive dismissal? Are they just waiting for me to quit so they don’t have to pay severance?

Do I have any legal grounds to challenge this in India? Can I sue for mental harassment, wrongful termination, or breach of contract (since they hired me for a different role and made me do extra work)?

What should I do next? Should I formally email HR, involve a lawyer?

I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have been in similar situations or know about labor laws in India. Thanks in advance.

Yes formally email HR. Write in detail about what your manager told you, how the new team seemed unaware of your reassignment and whatever other details that are relevant. That way there is some record of this.

I could connect you with some ppl who’ve handled such cases, but I have to ask, how long have you actually waited? What is the time span? Companies can sometimes take time to do reassignment overhauls. Is it long enough that it is time for your salary and they are not paying your salary? This would bring some perspective on the issue.

We were informed about our project closure on March 13. And I was verbally informed about my reassignment the next week. So 2-3 weeks have passed till now. And there is no clarity yet.
