Bank not initiating student loan repayment

I have a student loan from Canara Bank, which I intend to start repaying since I graduated 9 months ago. The manager has me on hook for 9 months promising that the EMIs will start soon. Meanwhile the interest keeps tacking on. Should I escalate or wait longer? As per the plan, I am not required to start payments for another year, but I don’t want to take on that interest
