March 17, 2025 at 10:09 amI want to get an affidavit made and I want to add three witnesses and have them also sign the affidavit as witnesses in order to bolster the affidavit and strengthen it further. I was told that this is not possible on a affidavit and that there are no witnesses allowed on an affidavit. Is this true? It doesn’t seem to make sense to me. I would think that adding witnesses would only strengthen the affidavit. Can someone shed some light on this? -

March 17, 2025 at 11:43 amA witness is only affirming that the signature is genuine. The notary is also affirming the same.Neither the notary nor the witness can affirm the contents of an affidavit nor express any opinion on the veracity.
An affidavit is a solemn assertion that a fact is true and the notary has signed saying that you have asserted the same in his presence.
How can a witness add any strength to this?

March 17, 2025 at 1:15 pmAn affiant can later claim that he/she signed under duress. Having witnesses especially if they are the the affiant’s own family members, can help protect against that scenario.
