Sfor context here is the text that I got:
Dear Applicant, Your Passport application File is sent to XXX Police Station for verification. Police Personnel from the Police Station will visit your place in the next 3 to 4 days for verification. It is requested that you keep all relevant documents ready for inspection, verification and submission. XXX POLICE- XXXPOL.
And that is about it and I am a student staying in a hostel so uh am I allowed to go to classes or outside in the time being(only tomorrow to be more specific)??? will they contact me before coming?😭 What if they come and Im outside during that time will they contact me and give me a chance to come back to hostel?

SIf you are not at the address you gave in your passport application, the police may ask you to go to the police station with your documents. Alternatively, you can call the police station and inform them or state that you wish to go to the station with the documents. Procedures may vary between jurisdictions, but this is one standard way passport verifications are completed.

AIt perfectly to go about your daily routine. No one can expect a person to wait for police all the time, that too with an unsure window of 3-4 days. They will be having your number, they will call you. If they miss you at your hostel room, you may have to visit the police station. They will ask for some grease money to grease the system gears. It is up to you to increase corruption in India.

SThey may or may not call. That depends on their mood, work load, competence, etc. Jurisdictions vary in their practices. Normally, they show up in the evenings when people are usually at home. You can always go to the station yourself; however, the concerned officer may not be available at that time.
Some relatively recent court rulings have held that passport verifications have to be submitted by a police official at a higher rank, probably at an inspector level – check this. This is because certain corrupt lower level officials approved the verification after taking bribes. And officials cannot refuse approval for non payment of bribes. There is a paper or electronic trail maintained on officers tasked with these duties.

Even if you’re in the first year – you’ll be out in a couple years?
Why would you want to go through this process again in a few years and deal with tbe bureaucracy?
Anyways, 6 days have passed. Hope you got your verification done.

RYou read an answer on Quora and decided that it was alright.
That answer was 7 years ago and a lot has changed since then, trust me.
You don’t want to have an address mismatch in your passport.

Ebekar tension le raha hai, they will call u if u r not present. police station ja k baat kar lena. Aur koi corrupt police wala hua toh 500-1000 de ke kaam ho jayega
