Can I ride my bike in another state without changing registration but by just paying the road tax?

I (27M) have a RE bike bought and registered in my name in Bengaluru 1.5 yrs back. Now I’m shifting back to my hometown Kolkata. I don’t want to reregister the bike in Kolkata with WB number plate and pay the huge registration fees. I found out there is a way where I can ride the bike in Kolkata by paying the road tax only.
How feasible is this solution?
Is there any legal trouble which I may face due to this?
