April 30, 2025 at 10:15 amI had a friend who worked as commission agent with political parties and got them clients who would donate certain amounts to get tax benefit under section 80GGC during ITR. I trusted him and donated money to the political party directly using the bank details he shared with me.
He was supposed to take commission from the donation amount of about 13% and return the remaining amount back to me. However, he started cooking up stories and ghosting me after I was chasing him for 2-3 months to get my money back. Then I contacted a mutual friend to understand what was happening and that is when he found out that this person has been lying to me and is not going to return my money.
So I confronted the middle man friend of mine and requested him to give my money back. He started claiming that he has already returned my money and I should stop harassing him for the same. I was in shock and did not know how to react. Looks like he is not going to return my money.
He never provided any receipt or consent documentation pertaining to my donation. However, I have few chats which confirm that he coordinated this entire transaction.
Can I take a legal action against him to recover my money ? -

April 30, 2025 at 11:58 amIt is understandable only if you ever earn so much. People don’t get scammed by choice. These provisions are procured by government for people to get rebate on their taxes. No one chooses to get scammed. Keep your opinions to yourself if you can’t extend any support.-

April 30, 2025 at 12:06 pmI earn enough to be paying most people’s CTC as tax to the government but still don’t roam around converting corrupt people’s black money to white. Also you can’t do shit since you paid money as a donation, so not really entitled to get any money back. You can only try intimidating him to return money.-

April 30, 2025 at 12:13 pmThank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, I don’t have such contacts who could threaten him. Just wanted to check if anything can be done legally.
It is my hard earned money and some asshole who scams people is definitely not entitled to keep it. You don’t get to decide if I am entitled to get it back or not.

April 30, 2025 at 12:15 pmThe govt provides rebates when you do a donation.
If you take money back, it isn’t a donation.-

April 30, 2025 at 12:18 pmIf the political party turned out to be bogus that would mean the donation was never done and I got scammed. Even if the donation would have been legit, I would have let this be as is considering it as a donation. But as this entire setup is scam, I am seeking advice.

April 30, 2025 at 1:29 pmActually it is not moral policing. One can argue it is morally not wrong to evade taxes – government spends it on worthless things, system is corrupt, they don’t catch bigger evaders etc.It is illegal to engage a commission agent who will give back the donated money in cash. Conniving to convert black money of politician to white money is an obvious crime.

OP
April 30, 2025 at 1:41 pmThis is a setup done by political parties along with these commission agents. The politician’s money is not involved in these transactions. We as working class are already paying high taxes with no returns as such. Besides these provisions are introduced by government to help people gain extra tax rebates on their income. This is a government initiative, however, political parties who are formed by so called government agents are equally involved and cater to such transactions. But if someone chooses to scam you and take advantage of your trust is unacceptable. Besides someone trying to choose a legal route to get justice is justified.
The day you get betrayed by someone you trusted will definitely be hilarious.-

April 30, 2025 at 1:45 pmEveryone engaging in these transactions is already aware of consequences from IT departments. You probably did not understand the context and purpose of this post. It is to seek advice relevant to this issue and not debate for you to present your moral opinions or if you find it funny or not.
