Can Power of Attorney Collect Rent

Can Power of Attorney Collect Rent and include it in its own income instead of property onwer.

Property is on my father’s name but he is already in tax slab. Can we make power of attorney to my mother so she can take rent on his behalf and tax will not bite us.

This seems to be easy workaround to not pay tax and wanted to check is this legal?
