        Hi everyone,

I’m a private school teacher and recently we were given notice to attend training for upcoming census work. Our staff did attend initially, but after the first half, many of us chose not to continue.

Now the situation has escalated. Authorities are saying this duty is *compulsory*, and if we don’t comply, they may take legal action. In fact, notices have already been sent to a few teachers.

My personal issue is that my cousin’s wedding is coming up, and I genuinely won’t be available during this period.

Even our school management is not in favor of sending teachers, but there is still pressure being put on us individually.

        I want to understand clearly:

        * Is it legally mandatory for *private* school teachers to perform census duty in India?
        * Under which law or section can they force us?
        * Can legal action actually be taken against us?
        * Does having a genuine personal reason (like a family wedding) make any difference legally?
        * What rights or protections do private school teachers have in such cases?

Would really appreciate insights, especially if backed by law or real experience.

        Thanks!
