…to what end? Are you shooting some sort of a wedding scene for your story?

                  This is actually a first.

I think I (or anyone would) need to understand YOUR thoughts and notions – before responding.

So you want to be married in eyes of God and eyes of people (samaj) but not in eyes of law, correct?

why would a woman want to be married in such a way? she would have no legal protection in case you decide to go rogue

people in ancient times who got married under hindu vedic rituals were also legally answerable to their council of elders. they too had responsibilities.

think of it as a live-in relationship with a ritual performed

but why? if you want a live in relationship just have that? do you just want a marriage or the fun and vibes of a wedding?

anyways live in relationships are also considered common law marriages if they are maintained for a long enough time and are subject to the same laws as a legal marriage.

To avoid the possibility of being judged for sinning.

no ones judging you for being in a live in relationship in metro cities as long as you own the place you live in and have your own money

and if you’re renting and they reject you for being unmarried they will surely ask for marriage certificate or see if your last names match – not ask for your wedding pics.

                                          so this makes no sense

To be judged – i.e. on judgement day. Not about people around judging the folks living in. The OP hasn’t been very forthcoming and articulating her thoughts properly. I’m sharing my thoughts based on whatever bit makes sense to me.

And if I may nitpick – you’re absolutely wrong in assuming that the folks won’t be judging the living in people – if they’re living in a metro, owning their own house and are living in. They judge because they aren’t getting to have any toe curling fun and also because they don’t have anything better to do in life.

Though yes, it may appear that they don’t judge – because they practically have no control or influence over the living-in people’s lives.

i mean yes i agree neighbours will judge and might call you names behind your back but it wont have any real tangible effect on your quality of life.

anyways nosy neighbours judge you for breathing the wrong way too so there’s no escaping from them haha

You probably don’t know much about marriage then.

Are you trying to get into bed with someone? It’ll be considered a valid marriage, with all the ‘baggage’ as you call it. Might even constitute a rape on false promise of marriage, if you are trying to get into a pretend marriage.

WTF did I read ? This sounds Nityanandaesque.

But if you go by OPs words exactly it’s possible. A priest performs the ritual but may not be legally married 🙂

                                                NAL

If you get married with proper rituals, the law will recognise it as a legal wedding even if you don’t register it.

This is like asking “will a theft be recognised as a crime if no one reports it”.
