Change lawyer in early stage of criminal defense case

My friend is falsely accused in a FIR. Police have asked him to go to the thana for inquiry but he doesn’t want to go alone or without an anticipatory bail. He hired a lawyer to help him but so far the lawyer hasn’t been of much help.

* He has not paid any payments to the lawyer yet.
* The lawyer had quoted a figure to get the anticipatory bail but he has not made any progress yet.
* Lawyer said the police are not giving him information and the court was too busy to make a filing, etc.
* My friend has already given him the walalatnama.

Should he give the lawyer more time or find a new lawyer?

No. Case hasn’t even started yet. No Noc required.

Thanks. He says he visited the thana but cops didn’t co-operate and that he visited the court but it was busy.

Should I pay him something?
