Cheating partner in marriage, police denied any help

one of my cousin recently came to know via chats and confrontation that his wife has an extra marital affair, they have a 6 yr old girl as well. though the wife has been sent to maternal home, my cousin is not sure how to take this ahead. what can be done in this scenario ?

Divorce. Adultery is not a criminal offence in India.

Why was she sent to the marital home?

Infidelity is no longer a crime. But it is definitely a ground for dissolution of marriage.

Do not initiate legal proceedings till your cousin is sure of what he wants to do.

He didnt know how to process all this, so he asked her to go back home.
