May 2, 2025 at 5:31 pmHi everyone,I’m looking for some advice and perspective on a career path I’m seriously considering.
I have a B.Tech in Civil Engineering and an M.Tech in Construction Management. I’ve been working for almost 9 years in the cost management field and am currently with an MNC in Gurgaon. My current role involves quantity surveying, cost estimation, contract and commercial management, project closures, and financial audits. Over the years, I’ve come across several commercial and contractual disputes — most of which were resolved before reaching litigation — and I’ve realized how valuable legal expertise can be in this domain.
Recently, I’ve been considering pursuing an LLB. My reasons are:
Legal awareness is becoming increasingly important, especially in sectors like construction and infrastructure.
I’m genuinely interested in law, and the idea of being a lawyer and understanding legal frameworks appeals to me.
I believe that combining technical and legal expertise would make me uniquely valuable in contract law, claims management, arbitration, and similar areas.
In the long term, transitioning into techno-legal consulting, arbitration, or even private legal practice seems like a sustainable and meaningful direction as I grow older.
A few things about my current situation:
I’m not planning to quit my job — I have a hybrid setup and a 5-day workweek, so I’m hoping to manage both work and studies.
Financially and practically, quitting my job for full-time law studies doesn’t seem feasible.
I’ve shortlisted a regular LLB college that’s relatively flexible with attendance (e.g., fines for shortfalls). It’s not top-tier but has a decent reputation and isn’t shady or fake — I’m trying to avoid the “easy way out” via questionable institutes.
I’d really appreciate insights on the following:
1. Has anyone here pursued an LLB while working in construction/engineering/management? How did you manage it, and what was the impact on your career?
2. Are there any decent, recognized colleges in Delhi-NCR that offer regular LLB programs with flexible attendance policies (without compromising legitimacy)?
3. Do you think combining legal knowledge with technical experience opens up meaningful career paths — particularly in contract law, arbitration, claims, or techno-legal consultancy?
4. Any guidance, resources, or communities to help build a foundation in the techno-legal field while pursuing law?
5. What’s the process for the Bar Council of India exam after LLB? Is it mandatory if I don’t plan to actively litigate in courts but want to use the degree in a corporate or consultancy role?
Any suggestions, experiences, or even book/course recommendations would mean a lot!
Thanks in advance!
