March 3, 2025 at 2:00 pmI moved into a new multi sotred apartment with 100+ houses. The plot next to ours is demolished for redevelopment. The drill and excavator machine operate starting 8 AM (many times as early as 7 AM) and bastards keep slogging their ass until 9 PM (and may times 10 PM). The labourers habe no lives outside of this and even work both days on the weekends.
This had made it difficult to exist. Headches and annoyance have peaked. Many times we complain to the local police who don’t bother until we call a few times. And then in half an hour everything resumes.
If I could then I would break their heads with the same machine, it’s that annoying.
This morning I called the police and they said they can work whatever hours they want if they have a permission.
How do I know about the permission? What are my options? And given that these are realtors, I also want to be cautious for my safety.
This is in Mumbai’s central suburban region.

March 3, 2025 at 2:50 pmIf they are doing construction work, then it is very likely that they have all the required permits. As per Noise pollution rules, construction activity is prohibited between 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. So legally, they are not doing anything wrong. If you want to check if they have all permits, file RTIs with BMC, MHADA, MMRDA, etc. (all involved authorities) and ask for all permissions granted. You can also complain with the State Pollution Control Board to see if their work is compliant with all the requirements.
You can relax about your safety; these are very common things, and developers probably wonβt even bother with you.
