January 24, 2025 at 5:11 pmBack in 2017, I had found a content writing internship through Internshala. The recruiter asked me to submit an original article to assess my writing skills, and then ended up hiring me for a month. I wrote 4-5 articles for a couple of days, but had to leave midway due to a misunderstanding. He stopped sharing topics, and when I asked for more, he was rude and claimed it was my responsibility to follow up, despite previously assigning topics himself after I would submit the article.Years later, I’ve discovered that he published or sold my articles to other websites without crediting me. I hadn’t signed any agreement as part of the internship—just a basic confirmation on Internshala. There was no mention of ghostwriting or creating content for third parties. He paid me a mere ₹200 for those articles and ended the internship, but would have likely sold each piece for thousands!
As an 18-year-old back then, I didn’t know how these things worked. Platforms like Internshala also don’t seem to have safeguards to prevent students from being exploited in such cases.
I feel this is a clear violation of my intellectual property (IP) rights. Is was wondering if there is a way now to contact the websites that published my articles and demand proper credit? What legal rights can I leverage to protect my creative work and hold such practices accountable?
Can someone here help me out with some sound advice?
