UMy girlfriend (Nepali citizen) and I (Indian citizen) want to get married via court marriage in Bangalore. Both our families are supportive, but we want to complete the legal process soon because her uncle is unwell. If something unfortunate happens, we might have to postpone the wedding for a year.

AYou and your girlfriend can get married under the Special Marriage Act,, which allows court marriages between an Indian citizen and a foreign national. Since she is a Nepali citizen, the process is relatively straightforward. Submit the filled form along with the required documents—passport, birth certificate, address proof, passport size photos and an affidavit confirming marital status and nationality etc. to the Marriage Registrar of the district where at least one of you has resided for 30 days. After submission, a 30 day notice period follows, during which objections, if any, can be raised. If no objections are received, both of you and the witnesses are supposed to appear before the registrar on the appointed date to solemnize the marriage. Once completed, you will receive a marriage certificate, legally recognizing your marriage.
