January 14, 2025 at 4:40 pmHi. The false ceiling of my home recently collapsed due to upper floor resident’s water broken water pipe. Big blocks of plaster weighing 5-7 kg fell from a height of 15 feet. Luckily no one was there in the area at the time, or else it could easily have been deadly. Now there’s a hole of around 5 by 3 feet in the false ceiling. Please let me know what are the legal options in this matter.

January 14, 2025 at 5:02 pmLawyer here. The only remedy is filing a civil suit against the owner of the property above you. You will have to seek damages and maybe mandatory injunction. If you think the matter can be resolved amicably, then talk to them or else issue a legal notice through your counsel.

January 14, 2025 at 5:04 pmIf you think it is important to repair the damaged portion immediately, you can do that as well and claim those amounts in the suit. Please ensure that you document everything. Take photos and videos. If you spend anything on repairs ensure that you get an invoice for the repair works.-
