Deposit stuck before rental agreement

I recently (1st may) shifted to a new flat replacing another girl in Andheri, Mumbai. But rent agreement isn’t completed as server was down. I paid deposit and rent in good faith as she had urgency of money and I was also kinda homeless. After i stayed there for couple of days i realized lot of damages that werent covered by her so i took it to owner and he stays out of India and she lied about any damages and got the deposit back from me saying owner is aware of all this. Now, after shifting i brought it to his notice about damage to cupboard and a glass window which now owner is saying will take from deposit and telling us to decide among ourselves on who will bear the charge. How do i approach this situation? I either want the damages covered or my deposit back.
There are 2 more girls staying whose deposit might also get deducted for damages and the old tenant got her deposit back and isnt interested in dealing with damages.
