April 27, 2025 at 1:43 amHello,To give context my father has signed over all his land in Punjab legally to my name with a judge present.
The issue presented now his daughter (my sister) who was legally adopted at age 3 to be able to go to UK.
My father wanted me to be the land owner and control the land and give any future profits share to her myself. Which l agreed is a good idea as he did not want her and her adoptive parents to control his land and sell things.
She is now stating she will go the legal route against my father and l.
Legally in India I am the sole daughter.
What are some legal repercussions I am facing and what I could prepare for.
To also give context she barely stays connected to her biological parents (our real parents).
Thank you in advance.

April 27, 2025 at 2:04 amThat is quite interesting. Even if everything is given to me legally. What would happen if I were to sell everything?-

April 27, 2025 at 2:12 amIn an ancestral property, you cannot give away property to just one person. Every person has rights to that property. If you sell the property, the other party would sue to declare the transaction null and void and your property could lie in litigation for ages.-

April 27, 2025 at 2:14 amOkay that makes sense! Thank you for clarification. How does adoption ideally work? She was adopted by my father sister and sent to UK at age 3. Legally, she is not a daughter of my father. Would this still go under ancestral property laws?

April 27, 2025 at 2:18 amFor that you’ll have to consult a practicing lawyer. There are formalities of adoption that have to be followed.

April 27, 2025 at 2:13 amBTW did your father got property after partition deed with his siblings ?
If so it lost the ancestral status due to partition. Property is considered ancestral if it remained undivided for 4 generations is ancestral property.Would suggest to sell it off and avoid all sort of legal issues.

April 27, 2025 at 2:24 amLegally you can keep it then.
Just keep your transfer documents Crystal clear and consult lawyer to recheck documents once.
In my state there are multiple things we have to do for transfer, like registration then city surveys registration (property card), if farm talathi level things. So get it done as per requirements in ur state.
