My soon to be ex husband (we are going through the divorce process since 1.5 years) has repeatedly made fake accusations against me to the police of bangalore that I threatened to commit suicide when he has 0 proof of it and we aren’t in contact for 1.5 years. He is doing this to harass me and drag the case longer as he doesn’t want to return my own cash and jewellery he stole from me.
So now the police has sent me notice to appear in the police station based on his false allegations of me threatening suicide.
The notice has no case number, nor any date to appear nor any FIR attached. Moreover the notice was just a picture sent from an unknown number in WhatsApp but it had the legal stamp.
Like should I take this seriously?? I don’t want to go to the cops as the case is already been handled in court and going to the police and getting involved will drag the court case further.
Also I don’t want to visit without my lawyer but as of now he’s out of town.
So what can happen if I chose to ignore it as I didn’t get any physical letter or case number and just wait for the court to do it’s job??

Sorry to hear that OP. While divorce is tough – these cheap tactics are worse!
Since there isn’t a date mentioned , you can wait for your lawyer and mention the same if you get a phone call.
I hope you have family and friends support during this phase. Do reach out to them.

abusive partner irrespective of gender rarely gives divorce.

Try asking one last time for mutual divorce in person and not through text.

File matrimonial charges if he refuses. He will divorce. when you visit police station, tell them he is asking for dowry.

He did abuse me for dowry after marriage. When i refused he took away my gold that my parents gave me and my cash. Divorce case is still going but he is harassing and stalking me. I filed an ncr in his name though just to be safe if he actually kills me.

Mam, sorry to hear this. From your other posts, it looks like you have not filed any cases against him and merely looking for annulment to get out of this relationship. While it’s very difficult to relate to be in your position and get out of this abusive relationship, I believe he has taken it too far and you have given him a far too much leeway with him accusing you of being a male, spreading lies and hatred among your loved ones.

With him asking for dowry, taking away all your money and gold, you have all the reasons to file dowry and maintenance cases. You can file enough cases to make him regret his life decisions and drown him with a taste of his own medicine, that is hurting you for no reason.

It’s unfortunate that undeserving men get filed such cases against them and their families get dragged in to endless legal battles and your soon to be x husband goes scot-free.

He will get out of this relationship and find another women to abuse.

Yes I been too lenient. I have decided to go to the police station tomorrow with all the defamation, harassment and dowry proof and get him what he deserved. Am so fed up. He could have ended it peacefully but no he wanted revenge. Now he will get it.
