I want to register a complaint regarding domestic violence on someone in my family. However, we want to complaint just for the sake of creating a record of such incident and also to dissolve any liability that might arise due to the self harming tendencies of the culprit. The victim and her son is moved out of the house and can afford to live comfortably well. I need to know what forum should i use that is practical as per our situation. We don’t want to go into the court and other legal proceedings, hence we aren’t going for FIR directly.

Go to the local police station and file a General Diary Entry (GD) or Non-Cognizable Complaint

                  [National Commission for Women](https://ncwapps.nic.in/onlinecomplaintsv2/)

You can file a general domestic violence complaint here. It’s a safe and simple platform. They usually won’t send your complaint to the police unless you ask them to.

call 1090 and report the incident, however, you must know that the authorities will visit the victim and if they deny the incident, nothing will happen.

You can send an email to the SHO of the police station of that area to report it

Victim or her family member (in case of death of victim/ victim is severely injured) can file a Domestic Violence case on the husband or his family. If you do not want to file FIR or case, then wife can call Vanitha Sahayavaani (or whatever it is called locally) and seek advice and counselling to the perpetrator.

She can also ask for protection officer, if there are chances that the perpetrator can come to the residing place of the victim and create trouble for her to live peacefully.

Under Domestic Violence case, the victim can seek civil remedies. It is not about arresting the perpetrator. [https://divorcebylaw.com/domestic-violence-lawyer-in-bangalore-india/](https://divorcebylaw.com/domestic-violence-lawyer-in-bangalore-india/)

If the wife feels that he may self harm and blame her for leaving him, hurting him, blah blah blah.. Then it is better that she files a police complaint stating that she is the victim of the domestic violence. She can give a statement only, requesting not to register FIR and asking them to advice him.
