I never thought I’d be in this situation, but here I am—5 months pregnant, battling stress, and being harassed by my employer for simply asserting my rights.

I work for a company in Hyderabad, India, where I’ve been employed for over six months. Everything was going smoothly until I informed my employer about my pregnancy. Suddenly, my work was scrutinized like never before. Emails were ignored, feedback became harsher, and I was made to feel like I was suddenly “incompetent” at my job.

        The Timeline of Events:
        • After informing my employer about my pregnancy, I was repeatedly put under pressure through unreasonable expectations.
        • Then came the sudden move to “transition” me to a third-party payroll without my consent, effectively stripping me of my employment benefits.
        • Next, I was falsely accused of theft, which was both humiliating and stressful.
        • And now, my employer has ordered me to relocate to Hindupur, a small district far from my medical support, family, and home—all while being pregnant.
        • I have filed a legal complaint with the Labour Commissioner, and my case is ongoing. Yet, my employer continues their tactics of intimidation, including withholding my salary and benefits. They have clearly stated in front of the labour commission that I have to go to the district area or I can go to the court.

Why Does Pregnancy Suddenly Make a Woman “Unfit” for Work?

This isn’t just about me. This is a pattern that many women in India and across the world face. The moment an employer learns about a pregnancy, the workplace becomes hostile. Suddenly, every minor issue becomes a “performance concern.” Employers start pushing employees out, hoping they’ll resign so the company can avoid paying maternity benefits.

The Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 exists to protect working women in India, ensuring 26 weeks of paid leave, job security, and workplace protections. But laws mean little if companies find loopholes or harass employees into quitting.

Feeling bad for you Hope you will make it out and I have heard labour laws favour employees.
I hope your husband supports you well in this and you will make it out of this situation, best wishes for your pregnancy as well as the Fight for the justice.
Also I do have an answer for the other question of yours but I won’t post it since I believe we Indians are not ready to have that level of talk. Also I would be unnecessarily be termed with XYZ stuff in the thread so , lol I don’t want to do all that explanation and stuff but all I can say in few words is Root cause of this is Forceful implementation of certain laws and rules makes the people to find loop hole in them and they resorts to such low tactics.
