March 2, 2025 at 12:18 pmI ended a relationship, but my ex wasn’t ready to let go. Every time I tried to break up, he pressured and threatened me, saying I had to pay him back some money and return his things. Eventually, I agreed just to get some peace, but things got worse. He showed up at my house, and I had to call the police. Now, my lawyer contacted him, and he’s claiming that I owe him *all* the money he spent during the relationship. These were never loans, and I never agreed to pay anything back. He’s showing my messages where I supposedly agreed, but that’s not what I meant at all.
How does this usually play out? Am I legally safe here? It feels like he’s forcing me to pay just to get rid of him. Any advice would be really helpful.

March 2, 2025 at 12:42 pmThe laws favor women in such scenarios, you don’t have much cause for worry. To get the money he will need to file a suit, assuming he has kept all the receipts and maintained a record of expenses which he can bring down to a specific sum he claims – which is frankly an absurd scenario which isn’t likely to play out.
File a complaint with the nearest Mahila Police Station/Regular Police Station relating to the harassment, and mention the fact that you had to call the police earlier in your complaint. One warning from them should send him running.
Consult your lawyer before taking any action. Hope things get better.

March 2, 2025 at 2:26 pmMoney spent in a relationship isn’t a loan unless there was a clear agreement. Your ex’s claims likely won’t hold up legally, especially if you were pressured. Since the police are already involved, keep following your lawyer’s advice, avoid contact, and document everything. If harassment continues, consider a restraining order.
