I’m at the visa office here at VFS Mumbai for a france visa. We missed a few printouts and were told get them from below. When I reached the place I was told it costed β‚Ή150 for printouts upto 5 pages and β‚Ή10 for every page after 5 pages

I wanted to know is this even legal? This in my opinion is outright exploitation and seems totally unfair.

I visited their centre in Delhi and was informed that the embassy has changed the form 2 days back and the revised form filing charges are Rs. 3000/- just monopolistic!

Moreover on comparing the old and new form there was hardly any difference!

It’s seems unfair but if you really want to do something about it get your visa first. Then file a grievance

Yep. VFS have outrageous prices. But it’s legal. You are free to use services elsewhere

Vfs charges outrageous charges. Be really careful with them. Get all prints beforehand to escape their extortion.

Of course it’s legal. A business can charge whatever they want unless there is some government regulation. Like a samosa can be β‚Ή5 or 20 or 200 at different places.

It’s cost of convenience and opportunity cost for you. Most pricing is demand and opportunity based, not cost plus. Indians have this socialist mindset that government has put cap to movie, taxi, samosa pricing and what not.

That doesn’t mean that VFS isn’t a**hole. But it’s legal and almost sensible thing to for them as business.

They are running a business, and businesses are run for profit. They can charge what they want. You can simply refuse and get printed outside the center or get all documents from home. We can’t sue Taj for selling biryani at 1000 when the road stall is selling for 60rs.

To add to the above, make hay while the sun shines.

Same near any visa office, RTO office, registration office etc. in any state. the govt officials inside have a cut in those profits.
That’s why I make sure to get all required prints beforehand.

From what i udnerstand, VFS’s code business model or user benefit is knowledge of the processes and legalities of visa and travel rules across the globe. The stationery/ photocopy store duties of making documentation copies for submission is not their responsibility, but rather a value added service. Some VFS offices/ branches have a vendor handle this section of duties and they too have similar charges, because they themselves are paying a rent for a sub-letted room or corner space in an office setup that belongs to VFS.

Best is to ask them for the list of documents on email, and then get them printed from your local xeroxwala shop and use one cheap organizer/ file type item to make your life easier.

That’s the cost of convinience, same situation if you bring out of specification photos.

This post does not make much sense to be honest.

                                  There’s no other options

VFS is in cahoots with the visa folks who deliberately do not disclose the proper documentation needed

                                  And VFS gets cash

Because you need the visa badly

And they all know if you could apply for visa you can afford to pay 25 rupees per sheet for a needlessly colored print out
