March 6, 2025 at 1:54 pmMy father works in the reservation department (commercial) of Indian Railways. He was on duty for two months during Kumbh and just returned. Upon returning, he discovered that his blood sugar level is 500, which is dangerously high.He applied for leave to focus on his health, but his office is refusing to grant him leave, despite the serious medical condition. He still has duty obligations and is being pressured to continue working.
What are the official rights and procedures for medical leave in such cases? Is there any action we can take against this unfair treatment? Any guidance on who to approach or escalate this to would be really helpful.

March 6, 2025 at 2:27 pmMake sure all communications are in writing.Write a follow up letter to the office and seniors informing them of your medical condition and request them to approve leave. Attach all your medical reports as proof of the same along with doctorβs medical certificate stating that your father is not in a condition to work and requires treatment. If immediate seniors do not approve, then escalate to Divisional Manager.
If leave is still not approved, then get in touch with registered labour trade unions of railways and Railways Ministry for assistance.
In the event, railways take any coercive steps against your father for taking leave, you can file a Writ Petition before the High Court challenging the same.

March 7, 2025 at 3:49 amIs your father governed by the CCS (leave) Rules, 1972? Because according to Rule 7(1) of CCS (leave) Rules, 1972, leave cannot be claimed as a right. -
