I’m in a really difficult and scary situation.
Yesterday, my family and I got into a parking dispute with our neighbor, which escalated when my neighbor’s relative, who seems to be some kind of local tough guy with a lot of property and connections, got involved. This relative started a fight with my cousin, and when we went to the police station for help, we felt like the situation was already compromised. It seemed like the relative had bribed the police beforehand because they didn’t take us seriously. He also threatened my cousin, saying he would beat him up outside and not leave him alone.

Today—this relative of my neighbor came speeding by and intentionally hit my cousin’s car from behind, then ran away. We are really scared right now, and I don’t know what to do. I don’t have a father, and I live with my mother, so we feel completely vulnerable. We’re worried that this person might escalate things further and hurt us.

We’ve already tried to go to the police, but it feels like they aren’t taking us seriously, and we’re terrified that they might not be able to help.

We don’t want to escalate things, but we also don’t want to live in fear. Any advice or suggestions on how to protect ourselves would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Make a complaint to the police in writing and tell them to register FIR. If local police does not cooperate then send the Complaint to the SP.

Happens quite often. You can directly approach the police or even the courts. Depends on where you’re living. I’ve personally witnessed clients get justice only when approaching the court directly.

There are more than enough remedies to avail. The first would be making a representation before the SP. Specially because women are also involved.

NAL. Do you have a recording of this person hitting your cousin’s car or can you get CCTV footage of the same?

If yes, post it on twitter and tag the relevant state police and other relevant twitter handles like the CM. Clearly state that the local police are denying filing an FIR.
