        Hey everyone,

I’m really stressed out and don’t know what to do. I’ve been staying in my PG since December last year, and I was promised a single room with a double bed, study table, and wardrobe. I chose this place carefully, paid my monthly rent and security deposit, and set up everything to focus on my NEET preparation.

But suddenly, this month, my PG owner started bringing people to check out my room. When I asked him why, he completely denied ever promising me a single room and even lied, saying he had already told me about shifting earlier—which is not true at all. There’s no proof of what he originally said, and now I feel like I’m being mentally harassed because I have no control over the situation.

I’m scared that he’ll forcefully move me to a much worse room, which doesn’t even have a proper wall. I don’t think I’ll be able to study in such conditions, especially in this cold weather. Worse, I don’t even know if I’ll get my deposit back if I choose to leave. What if I get kicked out without getting anything in return?

With NEET coming up, I don’t have time to deal with moving PGs and rearranging everything again. I’ve already adjusted to this room, organized my notes, schedule, and study space, and any change now will seriously mess up my preparation.

I feel so helpless because I’m new to these scams and frauds, but this is the second time something like this has happened to me. I seriously need legal help—what can I do? Can I take any action against this? Is there any way to stop him from forcing me out or at least get my money back?

Please, if anyone has experience with this or knows what legal steps I can take, I’d really appreciate your help.

Any legal steps available will require more time, effort, and attention. I can provide legal advice. You have the option to file a recovery suit to reclaim your deposit, which is slightly easier if you have proof of payment. If he harasses you physically, you can seek assistance from the police by calling 112.

I will take the liberty of advising you a little further—these issues will likely seem trivial a few years down the line. During my college days, I spent countless hours on the internet looking for ways to get back at my landlord for the perceived wrongs he had committed. In hindsight, I realize I should not have focused so much on such matters, as they did not contribute to my goals. Focus on your studies, be ready to move on short notice, and don’t worry too much about the landlord. I assume your exams are far more important to you than a month’s rent or security deposit.
