RMy cousin is married to a guy from Bangalore. We are from a different state. During marriage preparations when we asked about the procedure to register the marriage the fiancée’s family got very defensive.
It has been one year. Even after asking several times my cousin’s husband is not willing to register. He always fights and makes her cry when this topic comes up. Recently he helped with his friend eloping with a girl and doing register marriage.
We now suspect why he is not willing to register. How to find out if he is already married to someone else? We suspect his family is hiding something

INot a lawyer but i think i read a similar case before where the court favored the 2nd wife, treating her as lawfully weded to the man.
Apart from that, if the husband is not cheating the way it appears to be, this marriage is still completely under hindu marriage act, which says you only need to show the wedding took place as per the rituals. Registration is not required for validation

RSee a law student here, even though the marriage is completed under the Hindu Marriage act, but in many states it is necessary to register marriage.
And Karnataka is one of those states. You can check it on Karnataka’s gov website.-

RWe cannot file an RTI, there are certain limitations to it since the information is personal, and the husband wife relationship doesn’t give an upper hand in this situation. Unless of course she thinks that such behaviour by her husband is in fact harassment and agonizing.
If she wants to find the truth without harming their relationship she could hire a pvt investigator.
Now I am not yet a full-fledged lawyer but I would suggest to her that she consult a good lawyer and ask for his advice before thinking of taking a more straightforward route.
