UHi everyone
I had booked Spicejet flight from Delhi to Bombay for 17th Feb. Today (14 Feb) they informed me that the flight has been cancelled.
I booked the ticket through FlightMojo and my communication has been with them.
They said that the airline have operational issues and have no other connecting or direct flight available that day so I can only get a full refund.
I had booked the ticket for around 5.2k. Right now the flights are for 13k 14k. What can I do?
I would like to be compensated for the extra money I am paying. -

But they are saying the airlines won’t compensate
What are my choices?

USpicejet has been notoriously doing since this 7-8 years . I am just surprised they have not been reprimanded by the authorities as of now. Whenever i go on a airport there is a group of passengers fucked by spicejet

UUnfortunately, I think there’s nothing you can do beyond getting a refund. SpiceJet canceled my Phuket to New Delhi flight just 48 hours before it was scheduled and I had to book another more expensive flight. The only lesson here is to never book a SpiceJet flight again, even if it’s cheaper.

DWhy are we all hating on this person instead of talking about how we should have stricter laws that don’t allow airlines to cancel flights without reason or offer compensation for alternate flight if cancelled within 7/14 days?

UExactly.
I had a very busy next 4 5 days planned and this cancelation has fucked it up.
And am not the only one. This happens with so many people. I know folks who had to miss importsnt business meetings because of these sudden cancellations.
Also, it’s not just spicejet that is doing this. Even indigo has cancelled flights lately. Most of them are being delayed.

UNothing you can do legally. They will refund full money and that’s all they owe you.
Except use some brains and never book Spicejet again 🤦

SCheck with the airline. There is a probability that your flight is not cancelled ( not much that you can do even if isn’t) . Many a times these websites who do group booking like flightmojo , magic fares etc they cancel the tickets themselves in case of the overbooking in the same PNR.

SIn this case: this is what the Passenger charter issued by MoCA says
Scenario 1: You are informed of the flight
cancellation less than two weeks before but, up to 24 hours of the scheduled departure time.Your Right:
The airline must offer an alternate flight allowing you to depart or refund the ticket, as acceptable to you. -

ULegally there is not much you can do as current rules don’t allow for compensation if cancelled with more than 24 hours before the travel time.
I agree that there should be stricter rules.
Word of advice never book SpiceJet under any circumstances. They are the worst of the lot.
I remember I had booked a flight when they had almost shut under the previous owner the maran family( before Ajay Sharma took over). When we landed in Mumbai the airline did not have money to pay the aero bridge or fuel charges for the bus and we could not deplane for an hour. Decided never to travel again by spicejet

UKnowing struggles of spicejet and their history of flight cancellations I’m surprised people are still trusting them for their travel plans
I would prefer to be at peace by paying 1k extra and taking ticket on indigo, air india or any other airline for that matter

UIndigo has also cancelled flights recently.
Also, I booked spicejet because the time suited my schedule-
UI had a misfortune of being in go air flight when they announced bankruptcy while we were mid air and then drama that followed so suitable time quickly became unsuitable so now I try to book with carriers who have low chances of cancelling flights

UI guess the airlines have had a team-up done.
It is obvious that if Spicejet flight is canceled, passengers will surely choose another airline that is operating in the same route by charging double the amount.Spicejet will get its share from the operational airline, and the operational airline’s seats will also be filled by which both of them are filling their stomach by fooling the passengers.

FNAL, unrelated suggestion, did you book with your credit card by any chance, some travel credit cards(if you used one now, or travel much, you could look into it) offer compensation or similar for this exact scenario in addition to travel insurance, if I’m not wrong
