March 2, 2025 at 2:33 pmHi everyone, I need legal advice regarding my previous job.I (24M) worked in a small-scale engineering company for almost 2 years. I signed a **1-year bond** and completed it, but the manager verbally asked me to stay another year, which I agreed to under pressure. The company was **toxic**, making employees work **14-hour shifts** and **forcing technical hires into irrelevant jobs**.
I resigned after getting a better offer from an **MNC**, but the manager threatened to **spoil my career** and refused to provide my **relieving letter**. They later gave me a handwritten letter with a **false remark** that I erased out of panic.
During **background verification**, they emailed my new employer with **false accusations** of convincing others to quit and claimed my technical interest would harm other employees.
I fear **losing my current job** despite providing justifications. Any advice would mean a lot! -

March 2, 2025 at 3:39 pmHi, As i have erased a line which he wrote with pen, will it backfire at me? he stated that i have committed for 2 years, but the bond is for only 1 year and i have all the valid proof. Only mistake i made was to erase the line he wrote regarding the commitment of 2 years out of panic.-

If not, then the bond is not legally binding.As per section 27 of the Contract Act, 1872, any agreement in restraint of trade or profession is void. Therefore, any terms and conditions of the agreement which directly or indirectly either compels the employee to serve the employer or restrict them from joining competitor or other employer is not valid under the law. The employee, by signing a contract of employment, does not sign a bond of slavery and, therefore, the employee always has the right to resign the employment even if he has agreed to serve the employer for specific time period.
