TL;DR: My friend (17M) is being physically and mentally abused by his parents to prevent him from moving out for college. He secured a top rank (<2k) in AEEE and wants to attend Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, but his parents are threatening to stop his education entirely to keep him in Punjab. They hide the abuse from relatives. Looking for legal advice and resources in India to help him escape this domestic violence.

        Full Post:

I am (17F) writing this on behalf of my close friend (17M) who is currently in a dangerous and abusive domestic situation. For months, he has been subjected to regular physical beatings, punishments, and constant verbal/mental harassment.

The situation has escalated because of his college applications. Knowing he likely wouldn’t clear JEE, he applied to private universities to ensure he had a future. He recently received his AEEE results and secured a rank under 2,000, which makes him eligible for B.Tech CSE at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

However, his parents are hell-bent on not letting him leave their home state of Punjab. They have become indifferent to his success and are now threatening to bar him from attending college altogether.

The biggest hurdle is that his parents maintain a “saintly” and supportive image in front of relatives and friends, while the torture happens strictly behind closed doors. Because of this, he feels he has no one to turn to, and his mental health is rapidly deteriorating. He is 17 and feels trapped.

I am his only moral support, but I don’t know what else to do. I’m looking for advice on:

Legal Recourse: Since he is 17 (a minor), what are the legal options in India to protect him from domestic violence?

Child Rights/NGOs: Are there specific organizations in Punjab or South India (where the college is) that help students in these situations?

Financial Independence: If he manages to leave, are there ways to secure his admission or education loans if his parents refuse to pay or sign documents?

He has almost given up hope. Any guidance on how to help him escape this household would be life-saving.
