May 9, 2025 at 9:18 amI’m writing this out of frustration, anxiety, and sheer disbelief at how Go Digit Insurance handled what was clearly a life-threatening medical emergency.I’m a 25-year-old Indian citizen traveled in Bali, Indonesia. On May 1, 2025, I was scratched by a stray cat — which, according to WHO guidelines, qualifies as a Category 3 rabies exposure, the most serious kind.
Within 4 hours, I:
Cleaned the wound
Applied Soframycin
Got the first rabies vaccine dose (Verorab)
Reported the incident to Digit Insurance under my travel insurance through email(they have no international number)
The doctor also recommended immediate HRIG (Human Rabies Immunoglobulin), which is time-sensitive and ideally administered within 7 days of exposure. He clearly mentioned it in the report, written not verbal, clearly written.
The hospital sent an email to the godigit to coordinate the payment the directly with them.
Here’s where the nightmare began.
Digit’s Shocking Response:
They kept sending “Acknowledged” emails for 7 days. I sent emails to their grievance officer too.
I sent multiple reminders( 5-6 to be exact) reminding them of the urgency of HRIG and me not capable of paying such a huge amount.
They didn’t reply to the hospital at all.
No clear answer on whether HRIG was covered.
They kept asking for more and more documents, some of which had already been submitted.
When they finally responded, they casually said:
“Vaccinations cannot be taken cashless. Please pay out of pocket and claim reimbursement.” This was on Day 7, last of of HRIG injection. No such clause exists anywhere in their policy or terms. I asked for proof. They never responded. Had they told me this on Day 1, I could have trued to arrange funds or gone elsewhere.
Instead, I was stuck between a possible death and an INR 4.3+ lakh (IDR 81 million) HRIG bill I couldn’t afford upfront.
Timeline:
May 1: Exposure + first dose (paid out of pocket)
May 4: Second dose (paid out of pocket)
May 8: Third dose (paid out of pocket)
May 9: Still no approval, still no HRIG, and they’re now dismissing claim saying USD 100 is deductible because they are not clubbing all the 3 doses because they can’t club all the emails (despite three doses submitted!)
Why I’m Posting:
I followed every guideline. Digit’s delays nearly cost me my life, still not sure.
Their policy never mentioned any of this being excluded from cashless coverage.
Their internal communication is broken — different people giving different answers across emails.
This is not just bad service — it’s potentially criminal negligence.
I’m considering filing a legal case and reporting to IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India).
If you or your family are traveling and trusting Digit to protect you — please think twice.
I have all documents, receipts, and photos to back this up — happy to share if needed.
Thanks for reading. Please boost this and please know what legal steps I can take next.
