Back in the 80s my grandfather was forcefully driven out of his land(around half acre) by some local powerful people. My grandmother said they bought machetes and other tools to scare them away. My grandfather and his family fled and settled in another village where my family currently lives. Fast forward. My grandfather passed away 12 years ago and now we got to know from a relative that works in the State govt. that that the piece of land is still in my grandfather’s name. The opposite party have already cleared and flattened the land and have started building houses. My whole maternal family aren’t even interested in pursuing a legal case for such an old matter. Is there a quick solution for this if we start a legal case or will it drag for years. I know it sounds a bit filmy but its 100 percent the truth so i request all of you to please advice me.

Family not interested as the most difficult part is to bring them together at once. Also they are convinced that after so many years it is impossible to get that land. I will consult a lawyer once I complete my studies and get a job. Thank you.

                  1) keep the lawyer on a percentage basis as then he will be more motivated to settle the issue.

                  2) And try to settle the matter once it goes into the court on some lump sum basis, through mediation or any other ADR methods.

NAL: not worth it unless you have political connections its going to be stuck in court for decades and they can still claim adverse possession since they have occupied it for more than 12 years
